Python Developer

Full time – Graz, Austria
We are looking for an enthusiastic Python developer to help our team in building innovative solutions using cloud-based technologies. In this role, you will work on leveraging geospatial data using Sentinel Hub Services and the Euro Data Cube to create value-added services for our clients. You will also support team members with technical know-how in implementing complex algorithms as part of innovative R&D projects.
About Sentinel Hub
Sentinel Hub GmbH is an Austrian start-up founded in 2020 by Sinergise and a graduate of the ESA BIC Austria programme that operates in the field of Earth Observation. In close collaboration with our parent company Sinergise, we focus on developing value-added services and providing actionable information from satellite imagery based on Sentinel Hub APIs.
Our current team is made up of geographers, physicists, developers and Remote Sensing engineers from five different countries. By combining these diverse technical backgrounds, we develop tailored solutions for a wide range of applications, such as environmental monitoring, disaster relief, or land management. Our team also has experience in conducting national and international research projects, by providing high-value derived information from raw Earth Observation data and implementing complex data-processing algorithms.
About you
If you are passionate about tackling challenges and building meaningful products, your place is in our team!
You ideally have a degree in Computer Science or equivalent followed by at least 2-3 years of work experience in a similar field. Throughout your career you have built a track-record of writing efficient and maintainable code that can be run in parallel in the cloud.
You are keen to build solutions that provide better insights about our Planet and environment. You are curious and like to keep up to date with state of the art methods in a highly dynamic field. You can work independently, take responsibility for your tasks, and discuss the objectives with stakeholders from various backgrounds.
Your contributions to the team
  • Build and maintain optimised processing workflows integrating geospatial data in raster or vector format.
  • Support the addition of new geo-referenced data sources to Sentinel Hub’s systems providing data ingestion, retrieval, and display workflows to our customers.
  • In collaboration with our R&D team, implement AI/ML workflows to derive insights from satellite imagery.
  • Review, identify and implement process improvements for big EO data processing practices in the scope of large-scale projects (e.g. Digital Twins).
  • Draft technical documents and present results to partners/clients.
  • Conduct scientific projects independently, in collaboration with the product owner in the team.
Key qualifications
  • Experience in raster/vector processing using Python.
  • Proven track record in algorithm/product development.
  • Mastery of scientific computing tools and intensive computing techniques, including parallelisation.
  • Proactiveness and a sense of responsibility.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Fluency in English (written and spoken).
  • Willingness to learn.
Bonus skills
  • Design and implementation of spatial and/or other geophysical data processing chains.
  • Good command of statistical analysis.
  • Basic knowledge in cloud infrastructure and services (AWS, DIASes…).
  • Knowledge of Javascript.
We are looking for well-rounded, motivated people that are driven by purposeful work and are eager to learn. If you don't have the required experience, apply anyway! We value your potential to learn new skills more than the skills you currently possess.
What we offer
Sentinel Hub consists of a small but dynamic interdisciplinary and international team of highly motivated people who work closely together to create innovative EO solutions. As part of the team, you will get to work on real-world problems and help us drive forward the field of EO. Collaborating with us, you will benefit from:
  • Working in a small, self-organised team that encourages you to put forward your ideas and help shape the team's processes.
  • An inclusive and multicultural environment where individuals have room to grow professionally and personally.
  • A flexible work environment where your well-being is our top priority. Although the position is not remote, we understand that occasional work from home can be needed.
  • Interesting and meaningful projects (read more about the interesting topics we work on in our blog posts).
  • An attractive work location: Graz is a vibrant city offering many amenities close to the Austrian Alps, and you will benefit from well located and comfortable offices.
Remuneration
The salary is based on the Austrian "IT Kollektivvertrag" and starts at an annual gross of EUR 36,890 (full-time). Overpayment will be considered depending on qualifications and experience.
