ETC DI Copernicus Service Contract

The Copernicus Service Contract is set up between the EEA and the European Topic Centre on Data Integration and Digitalisation (ETC DI) with the main objective of supporting the implementation of Copernicus Land Monitoring Service (CLMS) throughout the implementation period. The collective goal of the activities within the service contract is to ensure CLMS meets its goal of providing integrated access to EO and in situ data and information to support land related policies. Together with ETC DI consortium members, our role is to provide technical guidance on the subjects addressed in the project.

Pixel Twins

The goal of the “Pixel Twins” project is to make the Earth’s surface part of the Internet of Things (IoT). Earth Observation data should blend seamlessly into the evolving software architecture and data access protocols of the IoT. To achieve this, we transform the entire surface of the Earth into virtual IoT devices. Each Earth surface fragment of 3x3 m2 will become an identifiable and addressable IoT object (“Pixel Twin”), creating a gateway to all data available from EO portals associated with this fragment of the Earth. Pixel Twins provide information along the increasingly spreading communication culture of the IoT, becoming a natural part of our economy.

Floodpulse

This project partly funded by Science Park Graz (SPG) aims to exploit Sentinel-1 SAR imagery to extract floodplain extents. The main advantage of using SAR over multispectral imagery is that cloud cover (more common around flood events) isn’t an issue as SAR sensors can “see” through clouds. The service will take advantage of the constellation’s global 7 year archive that no other SAR constellation currently can offer to identify long term trends. Then using machine learning and thresholding techniques on the image archive, the floodplain extent and characteristics will be extracted. We are currently looking for partners in Austria to help develop and test the service. In particular, we are looking for companies working in the governmental, insurance and hydrological sectors. EO-EnForCe

The FFG-funded EO-EnForCe project aims to exploit the synergies of Earth observation data and a GPS-based timber tracking solution to improve spatial data used in forest certification and supply chain monitoring with a proof-of-concept as the main outcome. Improved satellite-based near real-time monitoring of forest changes will furthermore allow the detection of illegal logging activities and evaluation of environmental impacts. Our team will support partners with the integration of enhanced EO data processing workflows for the detection of logging activities into the Euro Data Cube.

EO4Alps Snow

Funded by ESA, the EO4Alps-snow project focuses on implementing a high-resolution quasi real-time snow monitoring to improve water resource management. The core service is a snow water equivalent (SWE) product generated using a cloud based processing environment to be delivered over the entire Alpine arc region. Our team's role in the project is to assist partners on-board their algorithms in the Euro Data Cube and provide input satellite data for vast areas over the Alps.

Satfarm

How do farm-level decisions influence yield and the resilience of crops to climate-change induced weather extremes? The outcome of this FFG funded project will consist in the expert analysis of remote sensing indicators that can be tied to agricultural practices. In this project we will provide the experts in agriculture with time-series of statistics extracted from optical and radar EO sensors. Our team will also provide an open web platform allowing non-experts to visualise the results and base their decision-making on a reliable, objective source of information.

The Euro Data Cube is an online Earth Observation platform allowing users to access analysis-ready cloud-native Earth Observation data, run their workflows and algorithms on a hosted computation environment, and exchange added-value products on a dedicated marketplace. Within the consortium developing this revolutionary platform, our activities include on-boarding new users and helping them optimise their processing chains, creating bespoke workflows for our clients, and enriching the existing offer with new data collections and services.

This Horizon 2020 funded project aims to implement an artificial intelligence platform (GoldenAI) for the monitoring and analysis of mines across Europe. The platform is based on a unique combination of remote sensing, positioning technologies, and machine-learning that create actionable intelligence for safety, environmental monitoring and overall productivity. In close collaboration with our partners, we ensure the platform is fed with on-demand analysis-ready EO data in a harmonised format to allow maximum interoperability.
